List of products made from Petroleum | The Chemicals Man | East India chemicals
Petroleum products are organic compounds made in oil refineries. They result from refining (changing) crude oil (also called Petroleum) into more useful products.
Well-known petroleum products include:
Gasoline and Diesel fuel
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
Other fuels, such as fuel oil and Kerosene
Asphalt (mainly used in asphalt concrete)
Paraffin wax
Tar
Plastics
In addition, oil-refineries also sell other things that come form the refining process, most notably
Propane and other gases
Sulfur (and Sulfuric acid)
Different kinds of lubricants for machines
Different kind of industrial waxes
What is crude oil and what are petroleum products?
Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons that formed from plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. Crude oil is a fossil fuel, and it exists in liquid form in underground pools or reservoirs, in tiny spaces within sedimentary rocks, and near the surface in tar (or oil) sands. Petroleum products are fuels made from crude oil and other hydrocarbons contained in natural gas. Petroleum products can also be made from coal, natural gas, and biomass.
Products made from crude oil
After crude oil is removed from the ground, it is sent to a refinery where different parts of the crude oil are separated into useable petroleum products. These petroleum products include gasoline, distillates such as diesel fuel and heating oil, jet fuel, petrochemical feedstocks, waxes, lubricating oils, and asphalt.
What are petroleum products, and what is petroleum used for?
Petroleum products include transportation fuels, fuel oils for heating and electricity generation, asphalt and road oil, and feedstocks for making the chemicals, plastics, and synthetic materials that are in nearly everything we use. Of the approximately 7.21 billion barrels of total U.S. petroleum consumption in 2016, 47% was motor gasoline (includes ethanol), 20% was distillate fuel (heating oil and diesel fuel), and 8% was jet fuel.
