JENNERS STAIN FOR MICROSCOPY
Jenner's Stain (methylene blue eosinate) is used in microscopy for staining blood smears. The stain is dark blue and results in very observable clearly stained nuclei.Romanowsky stain solutions are used in hematology. They are composed of methylene blue, oxidative products of methylene blue (Azure A, Azure B, Azure C, and Thionin) and eosin dyes. Giemsa, a commonly used stain, does not adequately stain red blood cells, platelets, or white blood cell cytoplasms when used alone.

Stain in mixture of 50 mL of Jenner Stain Solution, 75 ml of pH 6.6 Phosphate Buffer solution and 175 mL deionized water for 5 minutes. Rinse in standing deionized water for 1.5 minutes, or rinse briefly in running deionized water. Air dry smears.
Stains that are related to or derived from the Romanowsky-type stains include Giemsa, Jenner, Wright, Field, May–Grünwald and Leishman stains.
